Storm Water Pipe Relining
Tunnel Vision successfully rehabilitated a damaged DN600 concrete storm water pipe using UV cured in place pipe (CIPP) technology, delivering a durable, trenchless solution without the cost and disruption of traditional excavation.
The storm water pipe had suffered structural damage over time, and a conventional dig and replace approach would have meant significant disruption to the surrounding site. The client needed a solution that could restore the pipe’s structural integrity quickly and with minimal impact to the surrounding area.
The Challenge
Rehabilitating a damaged storm water pipe without excavation demanded precision at every stage. Each part of the process had to be executed in sequence, with no room for error, and relied on a well coordinated crew working efficiently together on site to deliver a result that would hold up for the long term:
Prep and Cleaning
The damaged 600mm pipe first needed thorough preparation and cleaning to ensure the liner could be correctly installed.
Liner Installation
A 600mm glass liner had to be carefully pulled into place along the full length of the pipe without damage or misalignment.
UV Curing
Curing required a calculated UV light train to be guided from one end of the pipe to the other, ensuring even and complete curing across the full liner.
Finishing
Once cured, the liner ends needed to be neatly cut and finished within the pits to a high standard.
Team Coordination
The Tunnel Vision team carried out the full reline process on site, moving through each stage with a coordinated, well briefed crew.
Key Steps:
- Preparation and cleaning of the existing concrete pipe to create a suitable surface for the new liner.
- Careful installation of the 600mm glass liner into the prepared pipe.
- Use of a calculated ultraviolet light train, guided from one end of the pipe to the other, to cure the liner in place.
- Finishing work at both ends of the pipe, cutting back the liner and presenting a clean result within the pits.
The Result
The project was completed safely and efficiently, restoring the storm water pipe without the need for excavation. The work showcased Tunnel Vision’s UV curing capability and the strength of the team working together on site, providing valuable footage and imagery to support future tenders and demonstrate the benefits of trenchless technology over traditional excavation methods.
