Trenchless Pipe Repair – What Is It & How Does It Work?

If an underground pipe was to crack, burst or be damaged by tree root ingress, there used to only be one way to fix it – to get down and dirty with some digging.

However, digging isn’t always an option. The burst pipe could be located near hidden, underground hazards, beneath a building, or within a heritage-listed area. Fortunately, Tunnel Vision has a quick, cost-effective pipe relining solution that reduces potential risk and won’t result in any major environmental disruption.

What is Trenchless Pipe Repair?

Trenchless pipe repair is commonly referred to as ‘Cured-in-Place-Pipe’ (CIPP), or ‘Pull-in-Place’ (PIP). It involves a liner being placed within the existing pipe and cured to become effectively a ‘pipe within a pipe’. Using our trenchless pipe repair technology, we can investigate, locate and solve most pipe problems, with minimal disruption to homes, businesses or assets.

The liner is made from environmentally friendly, scientifically tested, epoxy resins. These epoxy resins are infused into a liner fabric and placed within the inner wall of the ‘host pipe’. Once the liner hardens within the walls of the host pipe, the repair has been completed.

How Trenchless Pipe Repair Works:

  1. CCTV drain cameras are utilised to determine the issue at hand and identify any potential issues that could occur in the future.
  2. The existing pipe is cleared and cleaned using a high-pressure water jet.
  3. An epoxy liner is inserted into the pipe through an inspection opening. Once placed, the liner is inflated using compressed air and a custom-made bladder. The liner is then left to cure and mould to the existing pipe.
  4. Once cured, the bladder is removed. The pipe has now been successfully repaired.
